Acne Scar Removal Treatment

Deep Scarring: Acne Scar Removal Treatment

Acne scar removal is just what it sounds like. Deep blemishes are removed surgically. The remaining tissue is less noticeable and far easier to cover.

There are fewer treatment choices for those who have the deep, pitted scars called ice-pick scars than for those with more moderate cases. When scars are deep they catch light shadows. The shadows emphasize the blemish and make it stand out.  Scar removal, particularly on the face and neck, is the primary motivation for sufferers to seek surgical solutions to smooth out their skin.

Three Acne Scar Removal for Milder Cases

There are other approaches to acne scar removal treatment. One is called “punch elevation”. This solution takes a different tack than other acne scar removal treatments. A dermatologist removes the part of the scar that holds the skin at it’s base. This technique raises the base of the scar to the skin surface. The skin is then secured via a special skin glue until it heals at surface level. Success depends upon the the final shape of the sides of the pitted scar. If the sides of the scar are flat the final appearance will be much smoother.

Fillers

Another procedure is to use fillers to lift depressions and pock marks. Compounds used include your own fat (called autologous fat), collagen from humans, cows or pigs, and hyaluronic acid. Filler injections improve the appearance of acne scar by flattening the scar tissue. The effect is not permanent and requires scheduled re-injections.

Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion uses abrasive tools to mechanically remove the top layers of skin. The result is a smoother looking complexion.

Techniques have been developed for both superficial and deeper scars. Superficial dermabrasion scours the outer layers of the skin known as the epidermis.  Deep methods remove the epidermis and portions of the underlying layers called the dermis.

A drawback to deep dermabrasion is the recover time. Healing can take several weeks.  The final results of the process can take months to complete as the collagen produced by the body  remodels beneath the skin. This procedure works particularly well in the treatment of moderate acne scarring by enhancing the cosmetic appearance of the skin.
